Sandy Fairbairn
Biography | Gallery | CV
Born in Windsor, Ontario in 1947 and raised in Welland, Ontario, Sandy Fairbairn is an honours graduate of the Ontario College of Art. He has traveled in both Europe and Canada since 1968. In addition to his work as an artist he has, over the years, been employed in occupations as diverse as heavy industrial labour and public library reference work. Though he has produced an extensive body of three dimensional, constructed works since 1970, photographic images have always been an important part of his artistic output.
After abruptly ceasing all creative work for a period of about ten years, Fairbairn returned to his studio in 2002. Since that time his work has been almost exclusively photographic, using a mix of traditional and digital techniques. His art-making continues to be an effort to explore, explain and find meaning in this world. He still does not know what is happening here.
